Sleeping in Seattle

It was really hot summer weather in Seattle, which didn’t really help the sleepy mood I’ve had recently. Still it was great for exploring. I’m a fairly lazy traveller, I like to take my time in the morning (ahem, more like into the afternoon) before heading out. Doesn’t always fare well for me, since a lot of things close early. However I enjoyed my few days and managed to see a wee bit of Seattle – Pike Place Market with its gum wall and fish toss, Seattle Art Museum (free first Thursdays, yay!) and just walking about town enjoying not wearing my coat.

The last days in Vancouver

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

The last days in Vancouver were centred around eating – cakes, macarons (always), ice cream, kunafa, cream puffs, crepe, sushi etc. There’s so many restaurants in Vancouver, that you could dine out someplace different every night of the year. Some places I’d like to recommend are La Casa Gelato, Hapa Izakaya, Soirette Macarons and Beta5 Chocolates.
Food aside, I also explored Aberdeen shopping center (I had to laugh at this super Scottish name for a place that primarily had Asian merchandise), Spanish beach, Granville Island and Main St. It was an exhausting last few days, but at the same time I enjoyed it.

Victoria, BC – Day 3

I was pretty lazy on day 2 in Victoria, so there’s little to share about that day. It was nice to just sit at the kitchen table and watch the ships pass by. The next day however, I was determined to explore downtown Victoria.
Victoria isn’t a big city, so its pretty walkable. There are plenty of lovely little shops, restaurants and things to admire. In the morning I was trying to hunt for all the Hands of Time, I only found one and gave up pretty soon. I spent the rest of the day wandering round – enjoying afternoon tea in Murchie’s, reading in Munro’s, getting cross-stitch ideas in Buttoned Up, buying a super cute bee necklance in Flavour and macarons from Bon Macaron (flavours Asian Fusion, Strawberry Balsamic, Pineapple & Basil, White Truffle & Sea Salt, Humus & Poppyseed & Rose).

Portland’s happening now

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

I’ve wanted to visit Portland for a while now, so it was definitely something on the list before I returned to the UK. Portland is such a chilled out city – plenty of breweries, greenery, food carts and public art. I stayed in the very pretty Northwest Hostel (third picture), it looks a bit like an American horror house. Some of the things I loved were Powell’s Books (with its special room on the top floor with rare books, including a signed copy of Edward Gorey’s book), Cacao’s hot chocolate, Voodoo Donuts (open at 3AM, whaaat!), street names (Flanders, Lovejoy, Quimby… where a few of the Simpsons characters got their names) and beer (I hope to bring back some to the UK – but we’ll see).

Travel dreams

I have mentioned in passing the fact that I am planning to head to Canada in late summer to look for a job (as well as doing what I really want to do; travel). It’s now become a reality, as I have both my Canadian passport and plane ticket ready for mid-September. It’s really exciting, but I also feel fairly nervous in the fact I have so little insight as to how it will all go.

In anticipation of my journey I’ve compiled a list of inspirations and wants that seem suitable for the subject of travel.
